Canonbury Extension

Canonbury Extension

The original part of the house was constructed in 1845 and sits within the Canonbury Conservation Area (designated 1969). The house was given a Grade II listing in 1994.

Trombe were appointed to design and install a new modern extension to replace a timber framed conservatory which was at the end of its lifespan. The new space was designed to sit within the existing footprint but to provide an update featuring large structural double glazing units, minimal frame sliding doors in a steel frame with aluminium cladding and a flat roof incorporating a low profile roof light.

The scheme was approved on the basis that the contemporary design would contrast but complement the architectural character of the historic villa. The proposal would have neutral effect on the historic and aesthetic values of the listed building and the Canonbury Conservation Area.
