Colchester Heath House

An existing 1980’s conservatory to this suburban chalet bungalow was in poor condition; the roof leaked and had poor environmental control in both summer and winter.

A local designer had prepared proposals for its replacement, but the scheme was unimaginative, and the owners approached Trombe to explore the possibility of lifting the design quality and improving the views of their much-loved garden.

The design was constrained by the low eaves level of the existing house, but we proposed a reverse pitched roof with laminated glass supporting beams, and high level glazing over the doors, to provide height and spaciousness. The roof drains to a box gutter at the junction with the existing building.
