Edinburgh Garden Room

Edinburgh Garden Room

The traditional conservatory is given a modern twist in this project, which was built to provide a garden room extension to a large Victorian House to the south of Edinburgh.

Given the northern climate, the owner wished to be able to enjoy the garden at times when it was not possible to sit outside, but the extension does not form part of the habitable space of the house. In this case, the conservatory falls into the category of ‘exempt structure’ under the Building Regulations. It is unheated and single glazed, with provision for good ventilation, for days when the sun does shine!

The objective was to create a transparent ‘glass box’ and we have achieved this with structural glazing, and careful detailing of junctions, fixings and abutments.
