Trombé was appointed to provide specialist glazed elements in connection with the refurbishment and extension of a former chapel for use as a Contemporary Art Gallery.

The works included an extra-large pivoting door to appear as a fixed window but to be openable to allow large items in and out of the Gallery. It is a good illustration of the specialist design challenge that Trombé is established to undertake, and few other companies are willing to consider.

The door frame is 3m (10 feet) in width and over 2.5m in height, and operates on concealed pivots in the floor and head, opening over walk-on glazing that illuminates a basement room below. It was entirely custom-designed and manufactured to meet the client’s ambitious brief.

Trombe also design and installed all the frameless glazing to the rear extension which formed the office space for the Gallery.
