Kensington Glass Box

Kensington Glass Box

We were asked to replace an ugly two-storey 1970’s conservatory at the back of a tall terraced house, located in a central London Regency crescent.

A single double glazed unit extends through two stories. This is the largest single pane that may be manufactured in the UK. It was installed with the use of a huge mobile crane and we dealt with the complex arrangements for road closure, which was necessary for this to take place.

As the glazed structure forms part of the living accommodation, we also provided calculations to prove compliance with the energy conservation requirements of the Building Regulations. If necessary we can provide very high performance glazing systems to minimize heat loss in the winter and overheating in the summer, so that the benefits of glass can be achieved without the disadvantages.

Although this project does not have doors, the narrow side windows to allow natural ventilation; they are mechanically operated and linked to a whole house environmental control system.
