Loughton Extension

Trombe were engaged from concept to completion to design an extension to create a sitting room area from the kitchen. The house was situated on a hill with a large level difference across the garden. To enable views of the garden a large 5m wide glass picture window was incorporated. Due to the size of the glass a crane was required to lift the units over the house to the point of install.

The overall height of the extension was limited by planning constraints but the large glass rooflight creates an effect of spaciousness, with an element of enclosure appropriate to a sitting room.

The structure has a steel frame, a flat roof incorporating a large roof light, and sliding doors to give a contemporary design that is comfortable to use all year round.
